Stomach ulcers and Active Manuka Honey

New Zealand manuka honey is a unique wild bush honey attracting world wide attention for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

Research by world honey expert Dr Peter Molan has shown UMF rated Active Manuka Honey was eight times more effective against the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers (helicobacter pylori) than other honeys. This bacteria is thought to cause many digestive problems.

Dr Molan concluded there were good theoretical reasons for concluding UMF rated Active Manuka Honey would be an effective treatment, which needs further testing with clinical trials. Many users of the honey can offer anecdotal reports of normal digestion being restored with regular use of UMF rated Active Manuka.

Over thirty years of research Dr Molan has established UMF rated Active Manuka Honey's value. It

  • Heals wounds
  • Renews energy
  • Eases digestive problems
  • Benefits sore throats
  • Relieves eczema and skin irritations
  • Kills antibiotic resistant infections
  • Destroys the stomach ulcer bacteria helicobacter pylori
  • Not all manuka honey has the unique properties (called the Unique Manuka Factor) to be an effective antibacterial agent.

Only honey tested by independent laboratories and shown to have a proven UMF standard - indicated on the labeling - is likely to produce the same results as Dr Molan's successful hospital trials.

A score of 10 or more is recognized as showing a honey with superior antibacterial strength.

The UMF rating comes from a standard laboratory test for antibacterial activity, with honey compared to a standard antiseptic (phenol) for potency.

A honey with a UMF rating of 10 would have the potency equivalent to a 10% solution of phenol.

All honeys have some antiseptic effect, because all contain hydrogen peroxide, but they vary widely in potency. Some are no more antibacterial than sugar, while others can be diluted 100 fold and still halt bacterial growth.

And while hydrogen peroxide is destroyed when exposed to heat and light, UMF is stable so active manuka honey does not lose its potency in storage.

How Do I Use Active Manuka Honey?

    For stomach ulcers
Take a generous amount (about one teaspoon) of Active Manuka Honey on a slice of bread one hour before meals with no fluids and again at bedtime. The bread is to ensure the honey stays in the stomach for a longer period.

Even more beneficial if you can manage it is to have small amounts straight from the spoon regularly through the day in the first few weeks - half a teaspoon every few hours would be ideal. This is because you will be keeping a continuous flow of honey in contact with the intestinal lining, and the problem stomach ulcer bacteria.

Happy Families Honeybalm Active Manuka Honey has a UMF rating of 10+ - that means it has a minimum rating of ten and is often much higher. All Happy Families Active Manuka Honey has been independently tested to guarantee it meets this standard.
