Eat Honey and Lose Weight While You Sleep

29 December 2005

Honey in a hot drink before bedtime has always been recommended for getting a good night’s sleep. Now it appears it may also burn fat while you sleep as well.

A Scottish pharmacist and an Olympic gold medallist cyclist have joined forces to produce The Hibernation Diet book – an eating program based on years of research into sports nutrition, to be published soon.

Pharmacist Mick McInnes came up with the diet when he discovered that athletes eating foods rich in fructose like dried fruits and honey burnt more fat and showed increased stamina.

According to McInnes, the body burns more fat in the first four hours of sleep than it does during any other activity, including exercise. Eating two teaspoonfuls of honey before bedtime combined with resistance exercise three times a week for 15 minutes is all that is required to enjoy the benefits.

McInnes’ nutritional ideas, based on the principle that the honey fuels the liver to produce glucose which keeps brain sugar levels ups and allows it to release fat burning hormones.

Athens gold medal winning cyclist Chris Hoy and champion boxer Alex Arthur are amongst athletes said to follow his diet.
